How to Find the Cheapest Flights in 2026

Airfare algorithms change, but the core principles of finding low fares remain the same. Here’s what still works right now.

1. Be flexible with dates

Use the calendar view on Google Flights or SkyNest search. Flying Tuesday–Thursday is still cheaper than weekends on most routes. A one-day shift can save $80–200 on long-haul flights.

2. Book at the right time

For domestic flights, 1–3 months out is often the sweet spot. International: 2–5 months. Avoid booking within 2 weeks unless it’s a last-minute deal.

3. Consider nearby airports

A 45-minute drive to a secondary airport can cut the fare in half. Always compare the full door-to-door cost.

4. Clear cookies / use incognito

Some sites show higher prices after repeated searches. Incognito mode or a different browser still helps.

5. Use SkyNest + direct airline sites

Start your search here to compare options quickly, then finish on the airline’s own site — sometimes they have exclusive member fares or free seat selection.
